Frequently Asked Questions
What should I expect my first session?
Your first session is a chance for us to get to know each other. We’ll talk through what brings you to therapy, what goals you have, and begin to explore how I can support the process. You don’t need to prepare anything, just come as you are.

What types of therapeutic modalities do you use?
I draw from a variety of well-established therapy models depending on your needs, goals, and what arises in session. This may include cognitive-behavioral strategies, EMDR for trauma work, somatic techniques to support mind-body awareness, DBT skills for emotional regulation, or solution-focused and strengths-based approaches to help you move forward. I also use elements of Gottman-informed couples work, motivational interviewing, mindfulness and Christian Counseling where appropriate. My approach is flexible and personalized always guided by what will be most helpful to you in the moment.
Do you accept insurance or offer a sliding scale?
I do not accept insurance at this time. I operate as a self-pay practice, which allows for greater flexibility in how we approach therapy and means a formal diagnosis is not required to begin or continue care. I do reserve a small percentage of my weekly appointments for clients who qualify for a sliding scale, based on household income. If cost is a barrier, please reach out, I’m happy to discuss availability.
Is everything we discuss confidential?
Yes. Everything we discuss in session is kept private and confidential in accordance with Texas state law and the ethical guidelines set by the Texas Behavioral Health Executive Council (BHEC) and the Texas State Board of Examiners of Professional Counselors (22 TAC 681.41).
There are a few legally mandated exceptions: I am required to break confidentiality if there is clear risk of harm to yourself or others (including threats of suicide or homicide), or if there is known or suspected abuse of a child, elderly person, or dependent adult. These exceptions exist to protect safety, but otherwise, your privacy is fully protected.
How often should I attend sessions?
I typically recommend starting with weekly session to help build momentum, deepen our working relationship, and support consistent progress, especially during the first few weeks of therapy. As you being to feel more comfortable and notice improvement toward your goals, sessions may gradually shift to every other week, then monthly, and eventually to periodic check-ins as needed.
Why weekly sessions at the start work well? Weekly therapy is widely seen as the most effective schedule for building a strong therapeutic relationship and promoting noticeable progress, especially in the critical first 8-12 weeks. Research supports starting with higher frequency and then tapering off over time for stray improvement addling term gains.
How tapering works? As therapy evolves and you grow more confident using learned skills, spacing sessions to every other week or monthly helps maintain momentum while supporting independence. Occasional check-ins can then serve as a safety net during life transitions or stressful periods.
How long will I be in therapy?
The length of therapy varies from person to person. Some clients come for short-term support around a specific issue, while others stay longer to work through deeper patterns, trauma, grief, or life transitions. We’ll regularly check in on your goals and progress together. My approach is not one-size-fits-all. While we move at a pace that feels right for you, I’ll offer guidance and structure along the way to help you stay focused and supported. You’re always in control of the process, and I’ll be with you until you feel you’ve made the progress you’re looking for.
What if I don’t feel comfortable discussing something?
That’s completely okay. You’re never required to share anything before you’re ready. Part of the therapeutic process is building trust and I respect your timing. You’ll always have the voice to pause, redirect, or take things one step at a time. Therapy should feel safe, not forced.
How will I know if therapy is working?
You’ll start to notice positive shifts, feeling more self-aware, handling stress differently, setting healthier boundaries, or experiencing more peace in areas that once felt stuck. Sometimes therapy may feel like we’re simply talking, but every session is guided by intentional questions, techniques, and goals designed to help you move forward. We’ll regularly check in together to make sure we’re on track and that you’re seeing the progress you came for and most importantly to celebrate your progress along the way.
What is your cancellation policy?
I ask that clients provide at least 24 hours’ notice if they need to cancel or reschedule an appointment. Cancellations made with less than 24 hours’ notice may be subject to the full session fee, as that time has been set aside specifically for you. I understand that emergencies happen and will always take circumstances into consideration. To cancel or reschedule, please notify me through the client portal, by email, or by text as soon as possible.
Do you offer Telehealth or virtual therapy?
Yes, I offer virtual therapy for clients anywhere in Texas. If that’s what works best with your schedule or comfort level, I’m happy to meet that need. That said, I do prefer in -person counseling when possible, as it tends to be more focused, distraction-free, and grounded in a calm, private environment that supports deeper connection. Either way, I’ll work with you to find what feels most comfortable and sustainable for you.
Do you provide Christian Counseling?
Yes, I offer Christian Counseling for clients who wish to integrate their faith into the therapeutic process. This can include prayer, Scripture, or simply viewing your struggles through a spiritual lens. It’s always based on your comfort level and preferences, faith integration is never required, and I welcome clients from all backgrounds and beliefs.
How do I schedule an appointment?
You can schedule an appointment by reaching out through my contact form, email, or by calling or texting me directly. Once we connect, I’ll guide you through the next steps, find an appointment time that works for you, and send access to the secure client portal where you can complete paperwork.
